The reason why I created this website was I want to speak to all of the
over 60 million stutterers worldwide. That one of the most important
things you can do to help your stutter is to accept it.
Let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Steve and I am 38
years old and married. I am married to the most wonderful and sexy
woman on the planet! I have been married to her for a little under 4
years. We have an 18 - month old daughter Sandy Kate and another girl
on the way. My wife Michelle also has a son Gabe.
Thanks to the World - Wide - Web I have talked to some stutterers all
across the world. In fact, Oliver So from Sweden who also stutterers,
help thought up of this website. He will be as well an administrator
for this site.
When I was 16 years of age my Mom read an article about stuttering that she said I should read. So I did. To bring back into context this was in the mid 80's. The article was written by Dear Abby in the GreenSheet. (the local comics) Dear Abby is a columnist who writes articles about things children should know. The article was about the NSP (National Stuttering Project), later in the mid 90's the group changed their name to National Stuttering Association a local chapter in Madison WI was conducting a meeting and the article was praising the group and how it affects people who stutter in a positive light.
I called the number in the paper and talked to the leader of the group. Although, I never met anyone who stuttered before but was interested in the fact of doing so, I went to one of the meetings.
The meeting has literally changed my life that day. Based on the fact I met several stutters for the first time ranging from mild all the way to very severe I made a point in helping people with the condition along with mine.
One day when I was 16 years old I told myself that I wouldn't take it personal if people laughed or said some critical things about my stutter. It wasn't going to get to me. I needed to ACCEPT MY STUTTER. The thing was after proclaiming those ideas to myself and believing it. My stuttering was not that bad after that!
I would like to hear from others out there in the stuttering community if my story is simmilar to yours?

To Julian, there's nothing we can do buddy, we may have went to college and all but we will never have a chance.
